ScottW514 22ce1d0d6d kas: the debug image gets its own deploy name
forgefirm-image-dev has one deploy slot, so the debug variant was
clobbering the normal dev image (and a dev rebuild clobbered the debug
one back). A distinct IMAGE_BASENAME (forgefirm-image-dev-debug) lets
both coexist in the deploy directory.

ScottW514 298abf8a12 Item 3: fold the debug kernel into the closing build
kas/forgefirm-glowforge-debug.yml builds one dev image on the debug
kernel (FORGEFIRM_KERNEL_DEBUG=1, tagged dev-debug) beside the closing
release and dev images; the debug options never touch either.
scripts/bench/debug_kernel_drills.py runs the two drills (three
load/unload cycles under DEBUG_MUTEXES, a forced -EPROBE_DEFER unwind),
each read against dmesg for lock splats, refusing on a non-debug kernel
or a non-idle machine; it is registered as a board bench tool. BRINGUP
item 3 names the mechanism and stays remaining work (run it on the
closing burn); the site's Build page documents the variant.

ScottW514 533ae7e46d Move the build, release, and acceptance docs to the documentation site
The documentation site, docs.forgefirm.org, is the one home for the
developer documentation. BUILD.md, kas/README.md, and docs/ACCEPTANCE.md
are on the site under Developers, and they are deleted here. Every
reference points at the site: README.md, BRINGUP.md, UPDATE-SYSTEM.md,
the kas configuration comments, release.sh, the CI workflow comments, and
the releases, forgetest, and bench READMEs.

BRINGUP.md: "Next work" item 16, step timing under CPU contention, is
closed; the video work resolved it. The items after it are renumbered.
CAMPAIGN-LOG.md records the closure.

Documentation and comments only. No layer content changes, so the
manifest identity of the next image does not change. No catalog
consequence.

ScottW514 dd6f459d7b docs: kas README is build procedure; status moves to BRINGUP and the log
kas/README.md keeps the build, lockfile, pin and release procedure and a
short build-time facts list; its push/release checklist and Scarthgap
migration backlog are archived verbatim in CAMPAIGN-LOG ("Superseded
status notes"). The real-time argument (PREEMPT, why PREEMPT_RT is not
selectable or needed) joins the BRINGUP hardware facts bank next to the
ring measurements it rests on; the camera pointers go to the 0011-0013
patch headers; the image recipe's gfui-client comment drops its README
pointer.

Docs and a recipe comment only; no catalog consequence.

ScottW514 4300f7f4a8 Follow the pulse ring to 32 MiB
The ring and the device-tree pool that backs it are now the size the
factory firmware runs. Docs follow, and the hardware facts bank gains the
reserved-memory map: 511 MiB usable, 96 MiB reserved for DMA, ~454 MiB
left to Linux.

image.health reads the pool size and ring_mb back and fails if they
disagree, so a pool the parameter does not use cannot ship unnoticed, and
checks that free never exceeds the ring less its gap.

ScottW514 c425822b82 docs, acceptance: the cameras as users meet them, and 8 MP at full resolution
docs/VIDEO.md is the user-facing camera guide: what the endpoints return, what
the sensors can do that ForgeFIRM does not send and why, the privacy gate, and
the state of 8 MP support.

The 8 MP (OV8856) capture path now reaches the sensor's full 3264x2448 frame.
Its stock RAW10 full-resolution mode runs the link at 1.44 Gbps/lane and the
i.MX6 CSI-2 D-PHY stops at 1 Gbps; the BSP adds a RAW8 mode that carries the
same frame at half the rate, so an HD machine is no longer limited to the
binned quarter-pixel mode. kas/README.md carries the reasoning, the register
deltas and the factory configuration to fall back to if the receiver will not
lock at 720 Mbps/lane.

Acceptance: camera.sensor-profile expects the new OV8856 geometry, the camera
covers map names src/camhealth.* (the src/cam.* glob does not match it, so the
lint would have gone quiet on an uncovered file at the next pin bump), and a
new auto test camera.frame-health asserts a burst of captures with no frames
the capture queue flagged errored - a real signal about the camera ribbon even
though those frames never reach a client.

ScottW514 b51e695fb1 manifest: component pins are not layer content
A component pin bump counted as a platform change: the layer content hash
in the platform identity covered the recipe carrying the SRCREV, the
platform is folded into every acceptance fingerprint, so every image
that carried any component update invalidated the whole catalog (dev
image 20260816191951: every test domain-changed after a one-line
forgectrl bump; the two manifests differ only in
platform.layers.meta-forgefirm). The component entry already identifies
the pinned source file by file; the pin double-counted it.

Component pins now live in <recipe>-pin.inc (SRCREV and the PV that
moves with it, nothing else) - forgectrl, grblhal-glowforge and
forgefirm-app here, the BSP components in meta-openglow - and
forgefirm-image-manifest.bbclass leaves *-pin.inc out of the layer
content (FORGEFIRM_MANIFEST_PIN_SUFFIX). Recipe bodies, patches, config
fragments, init scripts and third-party pins with no manifest entry stay
layer content; a pin written into a recipe body still hashes (the safe
direction). manifest-from-tree.py mirrors the rule and reads pins
through the recipe's requires; test_tree_manifest.py proves both
(pin bump: hash unchanged; recipe body or inline pin: changed).
Bitbake resolves the same SRCREV/PV for every pinned recipe.

Docs: ACCEPTANCE.md (what layer content is), kas/README.md (the pin
files in the push order), BRINGUP.md (the finding and the bench
consequence: the first image built with the pin files is itself a
platform change, so its campaign is a full one; pin bumps inherit
after it).

No catalog consequence: nothing in the image's behavior changes; the
change is to the acceptance identity computation, proven by the unit
tests and the CI lint on the tree manifest.

ScottW514 1179d5e7c1 Release acceptance gate: release.sh refuses to sign without a matching artifact
scripts/acceptance-gate.py recomputes every catalog test's domain fingerprint
from /etc/forgefirm-manifest.json inside the release rootfs and requires the
committed releases/v<version>/acceptance.json to carry a matching PASS
(inherited results not core and newer than the invalidate epoch; the artifact
self-hashed; the catalog identical to the tree). release.sh runs it after the
build and stages the artifact as a release asset; FORGEFIRM_ACCEPTANCE_SKIP=1
bypasses loudly. scripts/manifest-from-tree.py builds the same manifest from
the recipe pins with git for CI and the workstation; forgetest-ci.yml runs the
unit tests and enforces the coverage lint (every manifest path covered by some
test). docs/ACCEPTANCE.md is the contract; the coverage currency rule and the
status live in BRINGUP.

ScottW514 0a05b6b114 docs: present-state build and update docs; fix the ring-size arithmetic
- kas/README.md: the real-time rationale rests on the feeder's bounded
queue depth, not ring size; the ring is 16 MiB (~84 s at 200 kHz,
~28 min at the 10 kHz cloud tick), a capacity for cloud-mode preload.
- BUILD.md, kas config, release checklist, cold-build workflow: only
forgefirm and meta-openglow (branch scarthgap) are cloned as
siblings; every ForgeFIRM source repo is fetched by pinned SRCREV.
- UPDATE-SYSTEM.md reads as the present-state design: the cloud-mode
compatibility baseline is the cloud client's configured firmware
version, not release metadata; decisions and open items listed
  plainly.
- README.md states what GRBL mode still needs the Glowforge service
for (camera-referenced homing) and what runs without it.
- BRINGUP.md: generic build-host and fwup-lab references, the retained
reproductions of the no-fire drill, the System tab.
- LIGHTBURN.md: the arm-window timeouts are machine settings.
- forgefirm-image.bb describes forgectrl as the machine-services
daemon and points at the right backlog entry.
- American spelling throughout.

ScottW514 e9443a60ef Keep debug-tweaks out of release images; harden the installer
- Move the passwordless-root debug-tweaks image feature out of the
shared kas config into forgefirm-image-dev.bb, so the release
forgefirm-image built from the same config is not passwordless-root.
release.sh gains a gate that reads the built rootfs /etc/shadow and
fails on an empty root password, plus a config-level guard that
debug-tweaks is not present in the resolved kas dump. (B-1)
- The installer copies ffboot out of the signature-verified new rootfs
it already mounts, instead of fetching and executing it from a mutable
  GitHub raw ref. (B-2)
- Record audit remediation Phase 2 (GATE B) status in BRINGUP.md,
including the bench pass still required to close the gate.

ScottW514 5dddea12ee docs: track the kernel platform-hygiene batch in BRINGUP
Add Next work item 9: the panic handler, control_12v removal, decay-mode
state tracking, module build hygiene, SDMA/EPIT/GPIO probe guards and
head_make_safe are code-complete and build-verified, with the bench check
each one still needs and a note that the batch ships with a full image
flash rather than a module hot-swap.

kas/README: drop the control_12v residue (the node is gone), state that
the buzzer driver is not part of ForgeFIRM, and record that the pre-SPDX
LICENSE strings remain only in layers this build does not use.

ScottW514 562631d9bf docs: describe the firmware that exists; ship the NXP firmware EULA
README: replace the stalled REST/GUI roadmap with what the firmware does -
GRBL mode over TCP for LightBurn/UGS/cncjs, optional cloud mode, the web
control panel, cameras, A/B install beside the factory firmware - plus the
supported hardware incl. the 8 MP camera limitation and a real roadmap.

kas/README: xvclk is the board's 24 MHz oscillator; the pin/push rule covers
every source repo; camera and motion sections are hardware-validated, with the
OV8856 caveat spelled out; the device-tree item closes with the control_12v
residue named; forgectrl is the machine-services daemon with two supervised
controllers.

LIGHTBURN.md: drop the pre-first-light status line.

BUILD.md: state the NXP firmware licensing and where the EULA lives on the
machine. The image now installs firmware-imx-lic, so the EULA text ships beside
the VPU/EPDC blobs it covers; a bbappend declares that package at parse time,
which is what makes it installable from an image recipe.

ScottW514 a2f1b8e9e8 CI: dispatch-only cold-build reproducibility workflow
Proves a fresh clone builds the release image on a hosted runner
(sibling checkouts for meta-openglow and the kernel-module externalsrc,
rm_work to fit the disk budget) and publishes artifact checksums for
comparison against locally built releases. Never produces release
artifacts - releases are built and signed on the maintainer's host.

ScottW514 fcf183eefd release.sh: the release pipeline
Gates (clean tree, version single-source across FORGEFIRM_RELEASE /
rootfs stamp / .fw meta-version / tag, rootfs-vs-slot size with early
warning, installer-embedded pubkey must match the signing key,
factory-era fwup verification of the packed archive), then build,
pack, sign, checksum, and stage forgefirm.fw + sha256sums.txt +
forgefirm-image-glowforge.rootfs.wic.gz with the gh publish command
(--publish runs it where gh is authenticated). release.sh --dev packs
a dev-key-signed forgefirm-dev.fw from the release rootfs for the GUI
upload path. Signing keys are always passed explicitly - no defaults.
kas/README release order and the plan doc updated to match.

ScottW514 061def2343 grblhal-glowforge: recipe with boot autostart

ScottW514 e0da938e4b kas/README: record the real-time strategy decision
CONFIG_PREEMPT=y (factory behavior); PREEMPT_RT unavailable on arm32
6.12 and unnecessary for the pulse feeder - the 128 MiB SDMA ring at
1 byte per EPIT tick holds minutes of stream, so deep buffering plus
SCHED_FIFO rides out any PREEMPT-scale scheduling latency. Documents
the audit M9/N15 arithmetic next to the migration backlog.

ScottW514 0596a08f01 kas: record the push/release order and lock upstream layers
kernel-module-glowforge and python3-gfhardware are now pushed and pinned by
SRCREV in meta-openglow (no AUTOREV anywhere), and the meta-openglow
Scarthgap port is published on its scarthgap branch. Record the full
push/release sequencing in kas/README.md (incl. the release-time flip to the
pinned-remote meta-openglow block and the release-asset naming rule), and
commit the kas lockfile pinning poky/meta-openembedded/meta-freescale(-distro)
at the revisions the working build used.

The untracked kas/externalsrc-dev.yml overlay (local python3-gfhardware via
/mnt/c) is removed: the pinned SRCREV replaces it.
