ScottW514 d612c0099a Prove the density-only model; record the rasters and the decision
The stream harness keeps the analog rendering as the host-test
conservatism reference (rule 13's mask, the duty ladders) and drops the
M101 switch sessions; rule 18 stays as the derived-floor proof, now
satisfied from boot by the precompute. The lifecycle harness's
state-files scenario asserts the derived floor is in $$ before any arm.
The catalog's laser.power-model-switch goes and laser.power-floor reads
the one floor key with no M-code needed. The mswitch drill goes; the
m4corner drill becomes a single density pass; the dpatch drill returns
to density only.

The CAMPAIGN-LOG records the first rasters (254 and 508 DPI grayscale
wedges: tonality held to ~14 pulse slots per pixel, no dither artifact,
one benign stale-verdict suppression under CPU starvation) and the
decision that ends the analog mode - the strike transient fires a spot
at every beam-on, and the finish comparison found no advantage. BRINGUP,
LIGHTBURN, MOTION and SAFETY describe the density-only present.

ScottW514 3025996c86 Prove the M101 dose-model switch; record the judged dose curves
The stream harness gains rules 18 to 21: the floor is derived from the
selected model's config key at the arm and a typed $35 is overwritten;
M101 switches the rendering exactly at the boundary in both directions
with no continuous FIRE at full duty across it; a refused switch (the
spindle on) leaves the stream unchanged, and the harness resyncs with
an empty line because the core skips G-code after an error until the
sender resyncs; M2 reverts a program-scoped switch and Q1 holds. The
analog sessions pin laser_floor_analog at the density floor so the
existing duty expectations stand, and the density ladder's unfloored
run moves from a chained $35 write to the laser_floor_density key.

The catalog's laser.power-floor becomes model-aware: it reads the
configured model and the floor keys from forgectrl, switches to the
configured model with M101 so the derivation runs without a fire, and
expects $35 to be that model's floor. The new laser.power-model-switch
switches to each model with the spindle off, checks the reported
message and $35 after each switch, and checks the M2 revert. The new
mswitch bench drill runs the switch on the machine in one armed run.

Docs follow: BRINGUP's Laser control section describes the switch, the
derived floors and the measured dose response of both models; the
MOTION settings table gains the five keys; LIGHTBURN gains a Power
models section and drops the stale 30 percent floor advice; SAFETY
names the switch's refusal rule; the CAMPAIGN-LOG records the judged
depth-witness runs of 2026-08-30 and the switch's host and bench proof.

ScottW514 0bddc9eeab cooling.fan-gate-trips: a fan under its floor is a fault; pin the airflow gates
The acceptance catalog gains the test behind forgectrl 5a31d66: an
exhaust floor at the legal maximum must trip AIRFLOW after the grace and
three ticks (hold, fire blocked, no resume, the exhaust gate TRIPPED and
named in the reason); a purge current floor at the ADC rail must trip
the same way; an exhaust floor of zero must read off in gates_off and
trip nothing; restored, the next session must run OK with every fan at
or above its floor. Three host cases against a scripted engine that
models the grace and the readings. The covers map names src/airflow.*.

COOLING.md gains 3a (the airflow gates) and the five settings with their
ranges and bands; SERVICES.md the gate rule, the rows, the AIRFLOW
verdict and fan_gates; SAFETY.md names the floors among the verdict's
inputs; BRINGUP item 19 records the gates as in with provisional floors
and the catalog at 44. Pins: forgectrl 5a31d66, forgefirm-app 81027ff
(0.1.15+git); fetch-verified.

ScottW514 bf3483e994 cooling.gate-off: a gate setting trips in range and is off at its far end
The acceptance catalog gains the test behind forgectrl 9e44fdc: the
coolant ceiling set just over its legal minimum must trip OVERTEMP with
a hold and fire blocked at the next run start; set to its top the engine
must skip the gate (verdict OK), report it in gates_off on /status and
/cool/status, and log the run-start line; the original values are
restored, on failure too, and proven restored. Five host cases against a
scripted engine. The cooling covers map now names the files that carry
gate state (gates, settings, status, the panel) and corrects a glob that
matched nothing: the GRBL cooling client is src/glowforge_cooling.c, not
src/gfcool*. The fake forgectrl serves /logs/tail and keeps blank form
values as "clear", which is what the daemon does with them.

Docs: COOLING.md section 8 carries each setting's legal range and
recommended band and a new 8a on turning a gate off; SAFETY.md names
what no setting can reach; ACCEPTANCE.md records that gates are
exercised through the settings API, never GFCOOL_* env overrides;
BRINGUP item 19 records the pattern as landed and the catalog is 43.

forgectrl pin moves to 9e44fdc; fetch-verified.

ScottW514 05d68ba0a8 docs: BRINGUP describes the present, CAMPAIGN-LOG carries the dated record
BRINGUP had grown to 3,122 lines in which the same subject was answered
differently depending on where the reader stopped: GATE A "stays open, no
live-fire" in the phase text and closed in the campaign record, the catalog
at 24 tests in one section and 35 in another, several "bench validation
pending" headings over bodies that recorded the pass.

Split by kind rather than by age. BRINGUP (907 lines) is the present state
only - status, bench runbook, laser, lid/interlock/button policy, homing,
forgectrl, diagnostics, logging, release acceptance, the measured facts
bank, and a Next work list of the 15 items that are actually open.
CAMPAIGN-LOG (2,657 lines) takes the dated blocks verbatim, in
chronological order, and is append-only: a correction is a later entry, not
an edit. Its two reading rules are stated up front, since moved text keeps
its original "above"/"below" and its pre-split item numbers.

Facts corrected against the tree while rewriting: the liveness probe gates
at p2p 800, not 500, with the real wedge, noise and jolt figures; the panel
has seven tabs including Logs and is built from src/ui/, not ui.c; the
devserver replaced tools/mock.py; /status reports real head presence; the
estop_halts_motion opt-in is gone; core PR #999 is merged, leaving only the
step_us_min commit fork-only; the update system stands at Phase 5, the
uSDHC pads and the 2026-08-08 kernel batch have shipped, and 8 MP camera
capture is tracked here for the first time.

SAFETY and UPDATE-SYSTEM point their drill records at the log. ACCEPTANCE
records that inheritance is local: there is no import of a published
artifact, so a second bench starts from a full campaign - one of the four
open items the retired tool plan held, the rest of which are now in
BRINGUP's acceptance item.

Documentation only, no behavior change and no catalog consequence: docs/
is outside every layer and .md is excluded from the layer content hash.

ScottW514 1c56427cae SAFETY, LIGHTBURN: what the pause and the cancel mean, now that the button drives them
SAFETY: the chain de-energizes itself behind a pause without being asked -
the charge-pump feed ends with the run, so HV_ENABLE drops with the watchdog
about half a second in, and on the resume it is back ~216 ms before the first
step (pad measurements). A pause is deliberately not a cancel: the latch stays
unlocked and the window open, which is what lets the next press resume the
job, while emission still ends because the stream stops driving FIRE. The
disarm grace counts down through a hold, so a job left paused disarms itself,
and a lid or interlock open while paused takes the cancel path - nothing
resumes past an enclosure opening.

LIGHTBURN: the two things an operator needs before pausing a cut - the resume
restarts from where the deceleration ended and accelerates from a standstill,
which M3 shows as a deeper spot and M4 mostly hides, and a job left paused
disarms itself and asks for the button again. Stop leaves the head where it
stopped; returning to the job start belongs to the lid and interlock policy
alone.

ScottW514 c4ea96127c Lid/button parity: harness cases, acceptance tests, operator and safety docs, BRINGUP item 16
laser_lifecycle_test.py: the button toggle (press = Hold, press = Run;
the arming press is not a pause), lid and interlock cancel mid-job with
the return to the job start and no alarm, and lid_policy=hold.

Acceptance catalog: motion.button-hold-resume, motion.lid-cancel-home
(operator: travel job, lid open -> cancel message, banner, no alarm,
autonomous return, Idle at the start), laser.lid-cancel-mid-fire (live:
emission stops in hardware, cancelled, returned, armed=false, latch
locked, hardware button latch SET). covers name the switch and laser
sources explicitly.

LIGHTBURN.md: what the lid, Stop and the button now do; SAFETY.md: the
door policy and the button as a software layer; BRINGUP.md: item 16
records the whole parity change (host-proven, bench validation pending)
and items 4/12 point at it.

ScottW514 f75629a4df hv_enable: EV_SW bit 4 is the HV_ENABLE readback; pins for the rename
SAFETY.md and the safing figure name GPIO4_06 for what it is - the
readback of the chain's HV_ENABLE output through U24 (the factory net
label E-STOP is kept as a note); BRINGUP records the rename, the
device-tree polarity flip that makes bit 4 read as HV_ENABLE itself,
the removal of the estop_halts_motion opt-in, and the bench check for
the flash that ships it. Recipe pins move to forgectrl 801f1f3,

ScottW514 81fca45cb5 BRINGUP/SAFETY: interlock latch drive and watchdog readback bench-validated on image 20260815150546
Loop pull sets interlock_latch_reset + interlock_latch within one 50 ms sample and both clear on reinsert; charge_pump_alive tracks the run and falls 0.45 s after the last charge-pump pulse (matches the measured R*C); estop follows it on both edges. Note that an interlock trip parks grblHAL in Door:0 until a cycle start.

ScottW514 21d3a482c6 Laser safety write-up (docs/SAFETY.md + diagram); bump pin: forgectrl a451e7c
docs/SAFETY.md documents the control board's laser safing chain as
reverse-engineered and bench-verified - parts, every net with its SoC pin,
Linux exposure and polarity, the logic, and the software layers ForgeFIRM
stacks on it - with docs/img/safety-chain.svg. Linked from the README.

BRINGUP: Next work item 11 records the interlock-latch finding (an open
loop never tripped the latch; the kernel now drives INTERLOCK_LATCH_RESET)
and the charge-pump watchdog readback, both code-complete and pinned,
bench validation on the next image.
