ScottW514 f41464cc58 Pin forgectrl 0.1.22 (the releases-API check and the release dialog) and cover its routes
forgectrl 0.1.22 = 0235a88: the release check reads the GitHub releases
API and never requests the firmware file's URL, the daemon checks daily,
and the panel raises a per-release dismissable alert and runs the install
from one dialog.

Acceptance: update.release-check (auto) exercises GET /update/release,
POST /update/check (a machine with no route to the API answers 502, which
the drill records and steps over), the v<semver> shape and `new` of a
published release, and the dismissal round trip, and puts the dismissal
back. forgectrl.auth's unauthenticated-write list gains /update/check and
/update/dismiss. Coverage lint: 84 tests, 0 uncovered paths; the
forgetest unit tests pass (373). On the bench reference (dev image
20260911203113 with forgectrl 0.1.22 hot-deployed) every check of both
tests passed; the runs were marked FAIL only by the hand-back baseline,
because the controller is gated until the changed privacy advisory is
accepted again.

ScottW514 20c6256527 forgectrl 0.1.21: the release check reads the tag from the first hop
Pin forgectrl at 92cead6 (0.1.21). The published-release check reads
the release tag from the first redirect hop instead of the end of the
chain, where the asset store's URL carries none; every image through
v0.0.3 reported "release server error (HTTP 200)" against a published
release. The forgectrl commit carries the proof (relcheck_test in its
CI). The update.slots-and-signature covers map names the new
src/relcheck.c and src/relcheck.h so the coverage lint stays whole. A
catalog test of the check against a published release is held for a
later change.

ScottW514 7605a90946 forgetest: the update drill reads the daemon's reply, and a queue start waits for the fixture probe
update.slots-and-signature's apply section required 200 from
POST /update/apply, where the daemon answers 202 with started, like
every job endpoint, so its first bench run on image 20260902144848
ended before the job did; the cleanup then deleted the staged archive
under the running job. The drill requires 202 and started, and looks
for the daemon's refusal ("archive is not signed with the ForgeFIRM
release key"). Bench: the apply started, the job ended with that
refusal, PASS.

A queue started 4 s after a forgetest restart ran 7 tests instead of
10. The bench page's /state poll had a fixture probe in flight (an mDNS
answer), probe_fixture stamped its time at its start, and the queue
start read the stale fixture, none, so the three operator tests the
fixture runs in the unattended queue were routed to nobody. The probe
now runs under a lock and is stamped when it completes: a caller that
arrives during a probe waits for its answer. tests/test_fixture.py
holds the race with a slow scripted probe; it fails on the old code.

Catalog consequence: the update implementation hash moves; the runner
change is dev-only.

ScottW514 b182a5ab0e acceptance: helper imports move the fingerprints, and the update test verifies a foreign signature
A test's fingerprint covered its own text and its module's shared text
only, so a judge imported from a sibling suite module (laser.py takes
its motion judges from motion.py) could change without moving the
fingerprints of the tests that call it. The shared text of every sibling
module a module imports now rides along, transitively; unit test.

update.slots-and-signature claimed to refuse a tampered signature but
fed fwup one garbage file. It now makes a throwaway key pair on the
machine, signs a tiny archive, checks that the archive verifies with its
own key and fails against the shipped release key, and asks the update
job to apply it without confirm_unsigned: the job refuses it for its
signature before touching the slot.

ScottW514 0e37b0812e acceptance: a later FAIL blocks inheritance, ffboot is a component, the units fallback is valid
The inheritance walk skipped every record that was not a PASS on the
current fingerprint, so a FAIL or ERROR recorded after a PASS on the
same image was stepped over and the older PASS inherited into the next
campaign. The newest record on the fingerprint now decides: a PASS is
inherited, a FAIL or ERROR blocks it (reason failed-since), an ABORTED
run says nothing. Unit tests for all three orders.

ffboot, the tool that rewrites the boot environment on every install and
slot switch, was packaged from scripts/ outside every fingerprint. It
now lives in the recipe's files and the recipe inherits the manifest
class; the tree manifest tool fingerprints file components the same
way, and the update tests cover the component.

forgectrl.settings-bounds fell back to ui_units=mm, which the whitelist
refuses, so the always-required test failed on a fresh machine; the
fallback is metric.

ScottW514 c0f53a865f forgetest: the release acceptance tool and the bench diagnostics page
A stdlib-only daemon on the dev image (HTTP :8090) that runs the acceptance
catalog against the machine from a self-contained page, keeps the append-only
result log under /data/forgetest, and exports the release artifact the gate
reads. Tests declare kind (auto / operator / live), hardware (api / takeover),
coverage globs, prerequisites, and core membership; a test's domain
fingerprint is the hash of the manifest files its globs select plus the
platform and its own implementation, so a PASS stays valid exactly while
nothing it covers changed. Campaign rules: a FAIL ends the campaign, the core
(image health, kernel latch and drills, one live emission witness) is never
inherited, invalidate-all forces a full campaign, no SKIP. Live tests need the
operator acknowledgment and the physical arm press through the controller;
takeover tests stop forgectrl for the duration with a crash-recoverable
marker; the tool never touches the laser latch.

Catalog v1: 24 tests ported from the proven bench drills with their recorded
pass criteria (image, kernel K1-K3 and fire A/B/U, forgectrl API and logs,
motion incl. dead-man, cooling, live laser, camera, update, cloud). The bench
tab lists every scripts/bench tool and runs the board-side ones as
subprocesses (takeover tools wrapped). 44 host unit tests, including the gate
verification fixtures. Installed only by forgefirm-image-dev, with the bench
scripts under /usr/share/forgetest/bench.
