- **The bootloader in boot0 is the factory's U-Boot 2015.07 (built 2018-02-20),
read from the device; the BSP's `u-boot_2020.01` recipe is the source
reference, not what runs.** Measured 2026-09-02 with a forced kernel hang
(`kernel.panic=0`, then `c` to `/proc/sysrq-trigger`, the machine idle):
WDOG1 reads armed at 60 s with WDOG_B on timeout (WCR 0x771f, read through
`/dev/mem`; the board has no `devmem`, python's mmap works under
STRICT_DEVMEM for MMIO), the kernel's imx2_wdt adopts the running watchdog
at probe and the core feeds it (CONFIG_WATCHDOG_HANDLE_BOOT_ENABLED), and
nothing in userspace opens `/dev/watchdog`. The reset came 60 s after the
hang; U-Boot took its watchdog-timeout branch (the purple button) and booted
the factory recovery from boot0 (`root=/dev/mmcblk2boot0p1`, squashfs), which
took the machine's lease and answered ping with no SSH; a power cycle
returned ForgeFIRM (`boot_recovery=no`, WRSR POR). The serial console showed
nothing from the hang to the power cycle, U-Boot's own lines included, which
is not explained by anything in the software (stdout=serial, baudrate
115200, the strings present in the fielded binary); the same adapter on the
SoC console pins shows U-Boot at every normal boot and a console in the
recovery image after a button-hold recovery from power-off. An oddity of
the watchdog reboot, recorded, not an open item. The kernel config now
carries CONFIG_WATCHDOG_SYSFS so the state is readable without /dev/mem.
